The Bureau of Economic Analysis reported that gross domestic product grew at a 1.3 percent annualized rate in the 1st quarter, its lowest level in four years. Fixed residential investment, i.e. homebuilding, contracted at a 17.0 percent annualized rate, shaving a percentage point from GDP.
